Career Case Study: Customer Service Assistant → Documentation Manager (15 years service)

Customer Service Assistant → Documentation Manager

I joined Control Techniques as a Customer Service Assistant working in a busy sales team. I transferred to the Technical Department as Documentation Controller and was given the responsibility of controlling the technical manuals creation process, principally using external authors.  Also I was the main contact for all documentation related customer inquiries.

Two years later I was promoted to Technical Administration Supervisor with the responsibility of managing the Technical administration team. During this period I brought the whole production process in-house and redesigned the company manual templates.

I was subsequently promoted to Documentation Projects Leader during which I gained further responsibility including training the authors of documentation and also the control and development of a technical support website. Two years later I was promoted to Technical Documentation Manager as recognition for my role in the success of Control Techniques’ enhanced product documentation.

After another two years I joined the Marketing Department as Marketing Documentation Manager in a similar role relating to Marketing documentation. My current role is Documentation Manager, based within the Marketing Team, but now responsible for both Marketing and Technical documentation.

Control Techniques is a dynamic place to work and has really helped me develop my career.  For me, it’s fantastic that I am based in the middle of the welsh countryside yet right at the front of cutting edge technology
