Talking Industry is a series of online panel discussions organised by Drive & Controls publisher DFA Media. A panel of four or five industry experts from the worlds of engineering, automation and manufacturing come together to discuss hot topics in the sector. The international panel of experts led this topic with sets of pre submitted questions, and additional questions submitted in the live chat. It is a truly open discussion.
The latest Talking Industry webinar took place on February 15, with topics based on IoT, Communications and 5G. These included:
Prakash Shahi, Director of New Product Development at Nidec Motor Corporation, and expert panelist says:
“Nidec's motors and drives offer more than the latest technology; they provide solutions and values to our customers. That is the same with our IIoT and IoT products, such as the equipment health monitoring platform Forecyte and the intelligent Bluetooth enabled SelecTech Pro HVAC motors. We know from our experience that choosing the right technology is one of the critical enablers of any successful IIoT or IoT project. However, success also depends on our understanding of the problems we are trying to solve, the values we want to add to our customers, and the availability of resources and funding required to complete the projects.
As a panelist, I thoroughly enjoyed participating in Talking Industry's live discussions on IIoT, communications, and 5G. The forum brought in industry experts from various fields who complemented ideas and suggestions towards successful IIoT and IoT projects. For example, panelists suggested looking beyond the hype of 5G to focus on each application's needs to use it efficiently (do you really need 10 ms latency?), chiseling the scope of IIoT projects into smaller manageable ones, and taking advantage of government R&D credits to offset some of the cost burdens.”
As part of the Nidec group, we enjoy participating in industry conversations, empowering innovators, and providing insights where possible. Connect with us to be notified when we attend future discussions.
