  • In Ground

    Traditional design utilizing a single hydraulic jack, which is located directly under the platform and installed in the ground.

    Advantages:

    • Generally the least expensive and easiest to install.
    • Offered in both low and high capacity elevators.
    • Accommodates front and rear opening configurations.
    • Minimal pit and overhead requirements.

    Disadvantages:

    The jack must be buried into the ground roughly the same distance as the overall travel. Drilling a hole can be expensive and difficult depending on ground water and bedrock.

    Possible ground contamination from oil leak (sealed PVC recommended to prevent contamination)

  • Cantilever Holeless

    This design utilizes a hydraulic single stage jack and is installed directly on the pit floor. The platform is supported by a cantilevered car frame with the jack and rails located on one side of the hoistway.

    Advantages:

    • Jack hole is not required. Eliminating the cost of drilling and the risk of ground contamination from oil leak.
    • Accommodates front, rear and side opening configurations.
    • Allows for glass walls on sides where equipment is not located.
    • Rail bracket attachment only required on one wall of the hoistway.

    Disadvantages:

    • May require a larger hoistway width to accommodate rail and jack equipment being mounted on only one side of the car or at the rear.
    • Additional rail force considerations are necessary to accommodate rail brackets being mounted only on one wall.
    • Limited to approximately 16’-0” of travel.
    • Limited to 3000-lb. capacity rating.

  • Freight Dual Roped

    The design utilizes wire ropes in conjunction with two hydraulic jacks to lift the elevator at a 1:2 ratio. For each foot the jack rises, the elevator rises two feet. 

    Advantages:

    • Jack hole is not required. Eliminating the cost of drilling and the risk of ground contamination from oil leak.
    • Offered in both low and high capacity elevators.
    • Accommodates front and rear opening configurations.
    • Available with higher travels up to approximately 90’-0”.
    • Minimal pit and overhead requirements. 

    Disadvantages:

    • May require a larger hoistway width to accommodate dual jacks and roping mounted on either side of the platform.
    • Governor access door is required in the overhead unless a special governor is provided.
    • Side openings are not an option.
    • Material cost and installation time is typically higher when compared to an in-ground application.

    Freight In Ground Hydraulic

    Traditional design utilizing a hydraulic jack, which is located directly under the platform and installed in the ground

    Advantages:

    • Generally the least expensive and easiest to install
    • Offered in both low and high capacity elevators
    • Accommodates front and rear opening configurations
    • Minimal pit and overhead requirements
     

    Disadvantages:

    • The jack must be buried into the ground roughly the same distance as the overall travel.
    • Drilling a hole can be expensive and difficult depending on ground water and bedrock.
    • Possible ground contamination from oil leak (sealed PVC recommended to prevent contamination)

      Roped Hydraulic Elevator Equipment

      After years of research and development a new model of excellence in the elevator industry appears as Canton Elevator introduces Paragon™ Roped Hydraulic Elevators.  The newest of our advanced holeless hydraulic elevator systems has become the simplest and quickest package on the market to assemble and install. 

      Paragon™ offers travels from 25- to 80-ft. in 2000 and 2500-lb. capacities and is manufactured using the same principles as our standard hydraulic application.  In high rise hydraulic applications, Paragon™ has become the alternative to the more expensive traction types – requiring no costly drilling and very little overhead.

      Servicing the Paragon™ was not forgotten! We made sure that every component is absolutely visible and easily accessible. This essential feature will benefit your customer by providing the prospect of reduced maintenance costs and short downtimes.

      Dual Roped

      The design utilizes wire ropes in conjunction with two hydraulic jacks to lift the elevator at a 1:2 ratio. For each foot the jack rises, the elevator rises two feet.

      Advantages:

      • Jack hole is not required. This eliminates the cost of drilling and the risk of ground contamination from an oil leak
      • Offered in both low and high capacity elevators
      • Accommodates front and rear opening configurations
      • Available with higher travels up to approximately 90'-0"
      • Minimal pit and overhead requirements

      Disadvantages:

      • May require a large hoistway width to accommodate jacks mounted on either side of the platform
      • Governor access door is required in the overhead unless a special governor is provided
      • Side opening are not an option
      • Material cost and installation time is typically higher when compared to an in-ground application

The platform is supported by a cantilevered car frame with the jack, rails, and roping located on one side of the hoistway.

      Advantages:

      • Jack hole is not required. This eliminates the cost of drilling and the risk of ground contamination from an oil leak
      • Accommodates front, rear, and side opening configurations
      • Allows for glass walls on sides where equipment is not located
      • Rail bracket attachment only required on one wall of the hoistway
      • Available with higher travels up to approximately 90'-0"
      • Minimal pit and overhead requirements

      Disadvantages:

      • May require a large hoistway width to accommodate jacks mounted on either side of the platform
      • Additional rail force considerations are necessary to accommodate rail brackets being mounted only on one wall
      • Governor access door is required in the overhead unless a special governor is provided
      • Limited to 3,000-lb. capacity rating
      • Installation time is typically higher when compared to an in-ground application

    • Elevator Machine Rooms

      Hydraulic elevators require a machine room in accordance with ASME A17.1 and local building codes.
      Typical machine room requirements are as follows:

      • Minimum size to accommodate all elevator related equipment while providing electrical clearances as specified in the NEC or local code. Only elevator related equipment is permitted in the machine room.
      • ASME A17.1 requires a minimum clear height of 7′-0″ to access equipment.
      • A self-closing, locking access door of sufficient size to accommodate power unit. Door must be openable from inside machine room without a key. Generally, door should swing “out”.
      • Machine room must be temperature-controlled with adequate ventilation, to be maintained between 65° – 95° Fahrenheit (18° – 35° Celsius).
      • Fire protection devices as required by ASME A17.1 and/or local building code.
      • The table below outlines standard machine room sizes for Canton Elevator’s standard power units.

      Note: Various Equipment requirements and/or options will affect required machine room size.

      Sizing notes:

      • Typically, the 2444S submersible tank is applicable up to 3500# at 100 FPM. Higher speeds and/or capacities will generally use the larger tank. Be conservative if tank size is questionable.
      • Belt-Driven tank sizes are based on job-specific pump size (consult factory for details).

      Machine rooms should be adjacent to the hoistway at the lowest landing whenever possible.

      Machine rooms can be remote or adjacent at upper landings/above shaft, but machine rooms MUST be located within 50ft of pit to avoid performance issues related to machine room distance (consult factory for details).
