Nidec Power locomotive alternators typically come in two configurations:
- Dual Alternators
- Featuring two alternators per engine, with the primary alternator driven from the main output shaft and the dual auxiliary alternator powered by the PTO at the front of the engine.
- Combine Alternator
- A single alternator design, combining the primary traction alternator and a companion alternator are driven from the same shaft off the engine's primary output. This configuration is ideal for locomotives where space and weight are crucial considerations.
