1962
The Foundation
Moore Reed & Co Ltd was established by six visionary engineers as a small-scale manufacturer specialising in precision servo elements primarily serving the aerospace industry.
1964
The Expansion
To accommodate rapid growth, operations were relocated to Andover, and the product range was expanded through the addition of new products, including AC & DC motors and contact & optical encoders enhancing CTD’s capabilities and market reach.
1972
The merger with Newman Industries
The merger with Newman Industries, a renowned manufacturer specialising in electric motor engineering, marked a pivotal moment in Moore Reed & Co’s evolution. This strategic alliance not only expanded access to global markets but also significantly deepened the company’s expertise in electric motors and drive technologies.
1976
The merger with Kobe International PLC
Moore Reed & Co, described at the time as a group of ’high-precision engineering plants’, was acquired by Kode International PLC, a prominent manufacturer of electronic components. This strategic partnership, which spanned over a decade, enabled Moore Reed to further advance its expertise manufacturing high precision motion control solutions for the aerospace and defence markets, while expanding into robotics, process control, instrumentation, medical electronics, and sensing and measuring technologies.
1989
The acquisition by Control Techniques
CTD’s growing reputation for excellence in motion control solutions caught the attention of Control Techniques PLC, a leading global manufacturer in the field of motion and process control. Recognising the strategic value of CTD’s expertise, Control Techniques acquired Moore Reed & Co.
1990
The acquisition of the "Powerotor" Division
Moore Reed & Co acquired the entire “Powerotor” division of Evershed and Vignoles Limited. This strategic acquisition marked a major turning point in CTD’s history, uniting two of the UK’s foremost servo component manufacturers. By combining their complementary strengths, the merger brought together over a century of collective expertise and innovation in servo component design and manufacturing, solidifying CTD’s position as a leader in high-precision motion control solutions.
1993
Becoming CTD
The merger with the “Powerotor” division of Evershed and Vignoles Limited, combined with the acquisition by Control Techniques, led to the formation of a new identity: Control Techniques Dynamics, widely known as CTD
1995
The acquisition by Emerson Electric Co.
Control Techniques and CTD, became part of Emerson Electric Co., a global leader in motor and drive electronics. Now a wholly owned subsidiary of Emerson, CTD elevated its status to that of a globally recognised provider of high-precision brushless servo motors. Since then, working closely with sister companies Control Techniques and Leroy-Somer, CTD developed motion solutions that precisely meet the evolving needs of customers across multiple industries.
2017
CTD joins the Nidec Group
Nidec Corporation, the world’s leading comprehensive motor manufacturer, renowned for handling ‘everything that spins and moves’, from miniature to gigantic scale motors, purchased all of Emerson’s Electric Motors & Drives division. By being part of the Nidec Corporation, this strategic alignment reinforced CTD’s position as a trusted, worldwide partner for companies seeking reliable, high-performance motion solutions backed by decades of engineering excellence.
