Role Summary

Location: Newtown, Powys, UK

An exciting opportunity awaits to be part of the acclaimed Nidec Drives R&D Department as a Senior Power Electronics Engineer.

The Senior Power Electronics Engineer will report to the Product Development Manager, with key responsibilities to design, develop and implement power electronics and auxiliary circuits.

This includes all technical disciplines required to deliver these circuits. Including but not limited to; component evaluation, circuit analysis and simulations, thermal and mechanical design and PCB review with consideration for manufacturing requirements.

Some of the main responsibilities and duties of this role are:

  • To be successful in this role you will have a solid understanding of power electronics.
  • You will contribute to the creation of new designs, new product specifications, critical power components and design and develop analogue, digital, and electronic circuits/systems for power electronics.
  • You will be required to implement designs, which meet agreed functional design requirements and conform to international EMC and Safety requirements and regulations.
  • You will Interface with external suppliers and participate in product design reviews while maintaining daily interaction with engineers from multiple disciplines to ensure solutions are a good fit with the drive architecture.
  • As a Senior Power Electronics Engineer, you will be managing and facilitating type test meetings and developing test equipment

Qualifications & Skills

  • Masters Degree (MEng) in Power Electronics
  • Proven Experience as an Engineer
  • Must have an understanding of power electronic devices, topologies and control systems.
  • Experience using simulation tools (eg. PLECS, Saber, Simetrix, Pspice or Mathlab Simulink simulators)
  • Have an awareness and desire to explore emerging technology in the field, innovating ways to incorporate that into designs and products.
  • Have a working knowledge of planning tools and experience applying planning theories to their work
  • Ideally a Chartered Engineer (Desirable)
