In honour of World Mental Health Day, we’re proud to spotlight a grassroots initiative that’s making a real difference across our UK site: R.E.A.C.H. – Real Ears and Caring Hearts.
Originally formed by a group of male colleagues at Nidec Drives UK, R.E.A.C.H. was born from a desire to break down barriers and encourage men to seek help when facing mental health challenges. With only 36% of NHS mental health service users identifying as male, the team saw an opportunity to change the narrative and create a space where listening, caring, and signposting support could make a meaningful impact.
In its first year, 40–50 employees reached out for support, a testament to the courage it takes to speak up and the trust built within the group. While the initiative began with a focus on men’s wellbeing, it quickly became clear that the need for compassionate peer support extended across all demographics.
In true Nidec fashion, the team responded swiftly. Today, R.E.A.C.H. remains rooted in its original mission but is proudly open to all employees who may benefit.
What does R.E.A.C.H. offer?
- A safe, confidential space to talk with trained peer advocates
- Access to wellbeing leaflets with external resources and self-care tips for those who prefer written guidance
At our UK headquarters in Newtown, several R.E.A.C.H. members have completed their Level 3 Mental Health First Aid certification, with the remaining advocates set to finish by the end of October. Their dedication to personal growth and community care is truly inspiring.
