ST. LOUIS – Aug. 4, 2020 – To serve residential pool distributors and customers as they replace and upgrade pool pumps and motors, Nidec Motor Corporation (NMC) has introduced the Neptune® variable speed motor line of products under their U.S. MOTORS brand.
The Neptune motor will integrate with any new pump or any existing pump, bringing variable speed capabilities to the pump, and savings to the customer.
Variable speed motors have become increasingly popular with pool owners because of their energy and cost-savings benefits. Beginning in 2021, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is requiring that all pumps past a certain horsepower rating meet an efficiency threshold, so variable speed motors are now essential to both pool owners and distributors. Variable speed pool pumps will be mandatory for powering the filtration system of any spa or pool.
To operate these pumps, distributors will have a full complement of Neptune motor options so they can perfectly match customer needs. These brushless permanent magnet (BPM) motors are available in 1.25 THP, 1.65 THP, 2.25 THP and 2.70 THP. The Neptune offers another industry first -- 1.25 THP and 1.65 THP products come with 115/230 dual voltage options.
Technicians can replace any square flange or round 56J mount pump motors easily with Neptune motors. No plumbing work is required if the pump is not replaced. The totally enclosed fan cooled (TEFC) finned aluminum product provides a water ingress protection level of IPX5, which helps achieve a long field life in outdoor environmental conditions.
For pool owners, investing in variable speed pumps and variable speed motors have long-term cost benefits. The Neptune variable speed motor can help reduce utility expenses associated with operating a swimming pool by up to 80%. If the pool owner has a functioning pump, however, they do not need to replace the entire pump to save energy expenses. By investing in a more efficient motor, the customer will gain all the variable speed efficiencies and savings.
The Neptune features an integrated controller that adjusts the motor speed, and a simple-to-use user interface that functions as a high-end programming tool and timer to control pumping times. The interface offers customers up to seven on/off time and speed schedules, and one-touch speed energy-savings settings.
One of the best features of the Neptune variable speed pool pump motor is the quietness with which it runs. The motor control has no switching mechanisms. When the motor is programmed for slower speeds, the sound levels are typically much reduced compared to the homeowner's old single-speed motor-powered pump.
To help explain the many benefits associated with variable speed pumps and motors, Nidec has developed a free energy savings calculator and also a free energy savings guide. Please visit usmotors.com/pool-spa. for these resources and other information about U.S. MOTORS branded pool motors.
