ST. LOUIS, MO – Sept. 23, 2024 – Navigating the Build America, Buy America Act (BABA) requirements for federal assistance on infrastructure projects can be challenging for water quality professionals. To help the process, engineering and market-specific staff at Nidec U.S. MOTORS® will be available at WEFTEC 2024 to discuss the general requirements and the company’s BABA-compliant industrial motors, which are manufactured in Mena, Arkansas. These include large Titan® and NEMA frame motors, plus custom-engineered motors, all of which are used in water/wastewater, irrigation and other applications.
“We’re pleased to bring products to the water treatment and water quality industry with Nidec motors specifically designed for high-performance and reliability. Because they are manufactured in the U.S., our customers can rest assured that their motors comply with BABA,” said Patrick Hogg, Senior Marketing Director, Industrial OEMs and Distribution at Nidec.
This year at WEFTEC, Nidec is displaying its “smart” motors with integrated drives. Hogg said that "smart" pumping systems with smart motors are key to meeting the growing demand for water efficiency programs to handle not only drought conditions but also to better monitor and reduce energy usage. “We have focused considerable resources on developing motor and control technologies to help solve these critical industry needs. We now provide electric motors that surpass NEMA Premium efficiency levels, with variable speed operation, closed loop control systems, and overall capability for variable demand response.”
Electronically Commutated Motors (ECMs), synchronous motors, and motors integrated with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) are the heart of smart pumping systems. Intelligent pump systems can minimize energy consumption and simplify installation and maintenance. By harnessing cutting-edge technologies such as ECM, advanced sensors, real-time data analysis, and automation, pumping systems can optimize water usage, detect anomalies, and adapt to changing conditions.
At WEFTEC, Nidec is featuring its SynRA™ super premium synchronous motor, which provides high efficiency and power density without risking components. A unique design gives the freedom to replace components individually instead of the entire system, leading to a lower cost of maintenance. With Smart Building Technology included, the product delivers less wear and tear on pump systems by preventing over-exertion or more speed than necessary to meet application demand.
Also featured at WEFTEC is the ID300 Fusion™, an integrated high-performance drive solution for pumps requiring variable speed of 1HP to 10 HP. All the functions of a variable speed drive are incorporated into the pump motor, making it easy to configure the ID300 for the application.
The HOLLOSHAFT® vertical motor from US MOTORS® will also be on display. The iconic deep-well pump motor was the first to successfully address scarce water in California more than a century ago and continues to evolve with today’s technology to address critical irrigation and water supply needs. A corrosive-duty version of the HOLLOSHAFT is also available.
Nidec’s World Motor line of horizontal, cast iron, TEFC motors in both NEMA and IEC configurations will also be displayed at the Nidec booth. The World Motor family includes U.S. MOTORS® brand HOSTILE DUTY™, CORRO-DUTY®, 841 PLUS® and INVERTER DUTY™ motors. This product line is built to withstand a variety of severe duty applications.
Engineering, sales, and support staff from Nidec will be available to talk to WEFTEC attendees about the newest motor and pump technologies and the advantages they bring to water, wastewater and irrigation applications.
