New Neptune Hybrid™ from Nidec U.S. MOTORS® delivers low operating cost and high efficiency for residential pools
07 November 2024
ST. LOUIS, MO – Nov. 7, 2024 – Nidec U.S. MOTORS® is proud to introduce the Neptune Hybrid™, an extension of the Neptune® motor line and the first in a series of enhanced Neptune products the company will launch over the next year. Utilizing the Hybrid, like the other Neptune products, offers up to 80 percent energy savings for homeowners and meets the new efficiency regulations from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), which take effect in September 2025. This patented new motor technology features a high-efficiency brushless permanent magnet (BPM) motor integrated with a standard PSC induction motor and a variable speed control.
“We’re releasing the Neptune Hybrid motor in advance of the new DOE rule to help pool service companies and their customers easily upgrade and meet the new requirements when replacing or installing new motors,” said Jim Ellis, Director of Marketing, at Nidec Motor Corporation. “Pool service professionals will appreciate that the new Neptune Hybrid product features the same user interface commands as our award-winning Neptune product. That means installers who are familiar with the Neptune products will have no learning curve when they upgrade their customers’ pool pumps to the Neptune Hybrid variable speed product.”
The DOE regulations will require pool installers and service technicians to switch to variable speed motors in new and replacement applications. This regulation reflects the DOE’s push for greater energy efficiency across numerous industries, including pool and spa.
The Neptune Hybrid motor is an example of achieving greater efficiency through variable speed. When operating at 50 percent of speed, the motor uses only 12 to14 percent of the full speed power. The BPM is capable of variable speed levels from 600 to 2,760 RPMs, ideal for circulating the water in residential pools. At 3,450 RPMs, the PSC motor activates, providing extra power needed for vacuuming the pool.
The Neptune Hybrid features dual voltage models rated 1.25THP and 1.65THP, and 230 volt models rated 2.25THP. The motor is designed for quiet operation, and installation is “drop-in” with no complex wiring required. In addition to meeting 2025 DOE requirements, the motor complies with the California Energy Commission (CEC) Appliance Regulations (Title 20) and New York state efficiency regulations. The Neptune Hybrid was recognized by Pool & Spa News as a Top 50 product for 2024.
