Nidec U.S. MOTORS® to offer insights on Build America, Buy America compliance at 2024 Groundwater Week
03 December 2024
Nidec welcomes visitors to Booth #207 at National Groundwater Association event Dec. 10-12

ST. LOUIS, MO – Dec. 3, 2024 – Engineers and staff at Nidec U.S. MOTORS®, a manufacturer with more than 100 years of experience serving the groundwater and irrigation industries, will be on hand at Groundwater Week (Booth #207) to educate industry professionals on recent clarifications to the Build America, Buy America Act (BABA). The legislation was enacted in 2021 to establish a baseline “Buy America” requirement for federally funded infrastructure projects.

Groundwater professionals will also have a chance to view motor products and a cutaway of the iconic HOLLOSHAFT® vertical motor. Several models of the HOLLOSHAFT and other motors are BABA-compliant and manufactured in Mena, Arkansas. They meet domestic content requirements, with at least 55% of component costs attributed to U.S.-sourced materials.

“Our BABA-compliant motors maintain the same trusted features as our stocked catalog counterparts, with modifications tailored to meet compliance,” said Patrick Hogg, Senior Director of Marketing at Nidec Motor Corporation. “We’re proud to feature our U.S.-made motors, including our iconic HOLLOSHAFT products, at Groundwater Week. Our innovation is inspired by the evolving needs of our customers, and it’s exciting to partner with pump manufacturers as well as end users to build solutions that deliver efficient and long-lasting motors.”

Hogg will host a contractor workshop on December 12 centered around how the industry is navigating BABA since its implementation in 2021. While the U.S. Office of Management and Budget issued guidance on how to comply with the new law in 2022, there are still many questions surrounding the act. Hogg will discuss what requirements have been clarified within the last year and explain the steps motor manufacturers have taken to help contractors provide quotes for BABA-compliant pumping systems. The workshop will take place at 9:15 a.m. in Room N220/N222.

The vertical HOLLOSHAFT® was introduced in 1922 and has continuously set the standard for the vertical turbine pump industry. Known for its longevity, reliability and ease of use, the HOLLOSHAFT and solid shaft pump motor can be configured to satisfy specific vertical motor application requirements. These vertical motors are made to keep farming, turf, municipal and industrial pumps up and running in even the harshest conditions.
